Inflation Mania

Seriously. If you been listen to the TV channels today, it seems inflation is actually some form of alien blood sucking life form that is landing in their millions here to suck us dry. What exactly does inflation at 8.75 mean? Beer still costs the same right?

We have just increased our fuel prices, world wide oil prices are at record highs. Is it obvious that we will live with high inflations for long time to come? Why can’t the news media concentrate on something that is required, for example the Indo-US nuclear agreement? An agreement on nuclear energy will ensure that we are not dependent on foreign oil?

Am I looking too much in to the future?

You are not looking too much into the future but probably thinking off the ground.
Us nuclear deal is something which is not entirely in India’s hands whereas it has some control over inflation.

Also in any developing nation, inflation is the biggest threat which needs to be tackled first.

don’t post on topics u dont have much gyan about chakko
though i do agree that the media is sensationalizing the whole thing , by focusing on the yoy data, its news reporting is consistant - it does the same thing with most other news items,
id like to say they are as clueless as u
the so called secularist who has to defend the party in power

First the govt fudges figures to make things as rosy as they possibly could, something that is internationally acknowledged no wonder the fiis are removing 19000? crores in may and june . and cpi inflation has been in double digits at least since last 6 mths , and the fm has been saying everything is in control from june last yr and retorting we will tame inflation ! to any adverse comments the govt has gone draconian with threats to corporates like tata steel to control steel prices to control inflation, banning futures trading
and using laws drafted in the emergency to control stocks of food items

the wow and mom inflation has been continuously rising …though marginally.
the govt has not acted prudentially for a long time now causing this mess
lastly for ur gyan the petro price hike will hit on the inflation data in the next or next next week, then lets see how the media reacts

    ur trivializing the issue
Is the evaluation of inflation Beer still costs the same right?
Inflation affects the aam admi who spends much more than half of his income on essentials most not the booser like u

am hoping “Beer still costs the same right?” was a joke. rather scary if it wasn’t, it seems to sound rather awfully like “so what if people can’t buy food, let them buy beer!”

Yes. It was a joke. The whole point of the post was the “mania” surronding inflation figures. 8-9% inflation is not high compared to the others growing economies in our region. And no, I’m not speaking for the Congress Party, I’m speaking for the Indian consumer. Inflation is a reality, it’s more important what we do about it than running around like headless chickens.

Speaking of “mania”, thats exactly how I felt during the IPL season. All I saw on the news channels was IPL, IPL, IPL and more IPL. Nothing much about the earthquake in China or even the inflation you mentioned just now. IPL news coverage clearly overshadowed even inflation :)

The world’s most qualified lapdog will resign over the nuclear deal, trying to claim the moral high ground. Too bad all his degrees and experience in economics can’t help him use some common sense to deal with inflation. It is not a big issue, as long as there are able people of sound mind making decisions at the top. Not people who stare on like deer caught in headlights. Thanks for nothing, Manmohan.

A snapshot of the next election (inspired by the Karnataka polls).

CNNIBN and NDTV can try to alter public opinion by putting up opinion polls showing a simple majority for the Congress on its own, thanks to an imagined groundswell of support for his principled stand, the reservation policy to uplift the downtrodden monetarily forward mentally backward lower castes and Rahul Gandhi’s charismatic campaign that involves him going and eating food in dalit houses. We can have people like Arundati Roy, Kavitha Lankesh and Ramachandra Guha scaremongering.

After the elections, the totally expected defeat of the Congress will be construed as a “shock defeat”. The Congress will come out with a statement that they lost due to infighting and the workers could not translate the support for the party among the lower castes and muslims (because they are secular) into seats. We can have a few heads roll. But Caesar’s wife will always be above suspicion. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will be blame-free, with a claim that if it were not for the sacrifices of the Gandhi family, the INC would have got only half the measly votes it managed to garner. We can have plenty of blogs wailing the death of secularism because the average hindu voter is becoming communal due to the Hindu taliban.

CNNIBN journos would be chiding the average Indian voter “How could these guys not see the dangers in electing a communal party? They should have elected Congress or the Left, though they are the directional opposite of progress. Having a few develop faster than the others is a sin, everybody staying equally miserable is virtue.” And every state could be made into Gujarat, and that needs to be stopped. Every state may develop as Gujarat has done. Surely those people are not going to vote for the congress. The congress has a votebank of poor people. If many poor people become middle class, where will the congress go for votes?

LOLOL!!! You have a SENSE OF HUMOUR???

I’m impressed. Pro-progress, huh??? I remember when India’s markets were first opened to the world, the bjp was driving themselves crazy, yelling themselves hoarse shouting SWADESHI!!!!!!

Then when they came to power, they toed exactly the line that the Congress Govt. of Rao & Dr. Singh had shown them. And then they claimed victory through the “India Shining” campaign. And then they lost!!! LOL! Unko dhool chaatne ki aadat ho gayi hai!!!

    Pro-progress my foot! You’re just anti-Cong. cause that’s what you’ve been taught!

The truth my dear friend, doesn’t lie in blogs called “wordlyaffiar” or “the indian economy blog”. I’m still LMAO at the fact that you deny a Tehelka & then present blogs as proof.

I’ll give you some proof of who Manmohan Singh is & what he’s capable of.

And that little piece up there was fairly Nostradamus-Arundhati worthy too!

Only your bias (& utter ignorance) shone through a little too much.

Deny it as much as you like. Whatever progress we’ve seen in the last 15 years has been because of people like Dr. Singh, Montek Sigh Ahluwalia etc. You can’t change those facts. The fact is that “your types” too have the Congress to thank for the bread in your homes today.

:-) Thanks for nothing to you!

You’re the type of guys who would love to field the 1983 Indian Cricket Team for every world cup, unable to accept the fact that the team may not be fit for the job anymore.

I can’t predict 500 years down the line like you do. But I’m pretty sure the events will pan out exactly as I’ve mentioned above. They only have done so every state election the enemies of progress have won/lost in. Only a damn fool would not notice this trend.

Keep voting for the Congress. We can have more reservations, more “first use for minorities”, lesser salaries, more backstreet driving, more Chinese incursions, more yogic bending over backwards, more sycophancy, more Pratibha Patils, more loan waivers among other things. Boy, that’ll be paradise :)

    Sudarshan…

    Sweetheart… I said 50 years not 500, but you’re prone to hyperbole.

The people who governed in 1983 are gone. Dead & gone. This is a new team. You can see that for sure?

Say what you want to, but you can’t deny that they’ve done everything that we have to be thankful for today. Is that why you’re side-stepping their achievements whenever I bring them up? Meet me head on brother.
Did you go thru the links? The first one wasn’t working so I dug up another that talks of the same. Here you go again:

    http://www.newindpress.com/NewsItems.asp?ID=IEH20050521134444&Page=H&Title=Top+Stories&Topic=0
    http://www.rediff.com/news/2004/may/20spec2.htm

The only party that is pro-progress is the one that isn’t leftist-commie or rightist-hindutva. The one that doesn’t talk about India’s glorious past but one that wants to build a glorious future. Through Globalization, N-power deals & other progressive means. How is it that these basic facts escape you???

What you’re talking about is a trend. What I’m talking about is the truth.

The lesser salaries you speak of… Where are they? My salary has doubled every three years! Do you know why? Apart from the Grace of God, it is because of the angels He’s put on Earth like Dr. Singh. An Angel of Progress. As opposed to the devils you worship. More modis & babu bajrangis & dara singhs to you. More Raos, Singhs, Patels, Gandhis, Pilots, Deoras & Scindias to us.

It WILL be paradise if you throw the devils out, trust me on that.
Join India on the path that she’s on instead of pulling down the very men who’re trying to do something!

I’m tempted to do this….. I’ll give in what the heck!

Keep voting the bjp. We’ll have more riots, more dalits being killed, then more dalit uprisings. We’ll have more Gujjars protesting the reservation grant to other communities but not them! (In case you hadn’t noticed, the bjp govt. in Rajasthan had granted reservation to one community but not the Gujjars. That’s what brought the whole thing about.) More dead Gujjars? As long as the traditional upper-caste stronghold isn’t broken, anything goes.
More Christian missionary murders, more anti-Muslim rhetoric, more Masjid demolitions, more gujarats. More Dr. Sens being branded Naxals & imprisioned falsely by the Chatisgarh bjp govt. More injustice.
Paradise for upper-castes. HELL for everyone else!!!

Is that what you want? If so, say so. So that I can ignore you as “one of them” & peacefully focus on the nicer things in life.

    some wisdom & others…

Here’s what the Indian Express has to say:

    http://www.indianexpress.com/story/325659.html

There’s a graph in there that shows the rise of inflation in India this year. There are also comparisons with the rest of the world’s growing economies.

What I don’t understand is why all of you were not celebrating Dr. Singh in Jan this year, when inflation was only 3.79%?

The Express mind you isn’t pro Congress. It was started by an rss guy. Yet today it has the guts to tell the truth like it is.

You guys on the other hand are only waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

Forget it. Please understand the fact that India had an inflation rate of 3.70% this Jan & it has a lot to do with the fact that we’re a growing economy & global oil prices etc. Please also understand that Dr. Singh has the expertise to deal with it and will do a better job of bringing it down than anyone else we know. Give it time. Don’t just wait to pounce. Wait to celebrate his successes as well as they benefit each one of us.

Express isnt pro congress its editor definitely has procongress shades
it is not about the congress but about the sad state mr singh is in
he is not the master of his own government and proud to admit it
Dr. Singh has the expertise to deal agreed - but is he dealing
is there any reform - who is listening his madam certainly dont trust his word nor do the communists

lastly no one celebrates successes that too when the world mkts are at all time high ….

    Some more wisdom…

There is no wisdom in your comments for the following reasons:

    1. The Express was started by Ramnath Goenka whose leanings are common knowledge-rss. Yet the Express is seemingly an unbiased paper. Don’t knock it.
    2. The discussion is about inflation, not about whether Dr. Singh is the leader of the Congress party.
    3. Dr. Singh is the reason why you in probability have an MNC salary today. What do you mean by “is he dealing”?
    4. Same response to “is there any reform”. You can’t be blind. Please go through the links that I have provided earlier in case you want an unbiased view.
    5. What does an all-time high market have to do with an all time low inflation rate, exactly????
