Sex and Indians

Why do we have such an issue with sex? According to the recent Durex Global Sex Survey, Indians are not sexually satisfied lot. I think it has more to do with the word SEX. Some how it means porn in the Indian context. Maybe we should call it Kama education.

The Maharashtra Speaker thinks it’s a bad idea to teach students Sex Education in schools.

…. directive came after both ruling and opposition parties’ members flayed the government’s decision which School Education Minister Vasant Purke…

Yes. According to the politicians it’s against “Indian culture”. Which India? Do they mean the 60 year old nation called the Republic of India? or an idea of India in their minds? Which part of Indian culture says sex education is bad? I would really like to know - perhaps mention it on our Indian passports.

Now politicians also have a problem with cheerleaders in the IPL. GMR’s Delhi Daredevils have put an end to it.

The scantily clad foreign girls’ dances are certainly obscene and do not gel with Indian sensibilities, culture and ethos

Now what does that mean? Have they seen Kareena Kappor in Tashan? Maybe they should ban that too? If we don’t put an end to this hypocracy, we are going to have a major problem - soon!

This article is going in the right direction, however you could developed a little bit more your points.

There was one excellent article in TOI : http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Sunday_Specials/Sex_And_The_Classroom/articleshow/2986931.cms

In Pune Mirror, a survey shown that 98% of the teens are eager to have sex education.
Doesn’t mean it’s a lot of fun, you should see how it goes in US, UK or France. It starts when you’re 10-12 years old, with simple things. You get the details when you’re 14-15, at an age when your body begins to change…
At least, you know why and how.

I was shocked to see that 1 young in 3 get married when he/she’s between 13 and 19. Without knowing anything about how it works, nor how you get pregnant or how to protect from STD.

An other survey in the US shown that teens who receive sexual educations don’t have earlier rapports than the others. However, it constantly reduces the STD’s and unwanted pregnancies…

I have nothing to add regarding the sexy actresses I see in the bollywoods or the ads, or …

Isn’t India the country of Kamasutra ?
There was a period during which India was famous for its sex education, and during which the pandits were teaching some “Yoga” positions. (yes, I’ve been told that it was Yoga… by some “auto-proclaimed culture defender”, I’m sure !)

    Chacko,

It’s about time we stopped ranting about it & stepped into the world of policy making.

Let’s give ourselves a couple of years to pay off all our bank loans & then let’s jump into politics. We’ll form a party, draft a manifesto, canvass all over India, contest elections. Let’s do it mate!

Oh the politicians are taking it cosy, and well, they’re too embarrassed to touch anything with the word “sex” in it.

Take for example, the Indian Penal Code. It says that sex, unless its used for procreation, is illegal. Interesting… Makes it illegal for an impotent man to have sex!!!

Another one, the Special Marriage Act. It includes a clause from the 1864 IPC which says that homosexuality is illegal - but only for males!!!

So I’m not surprised with the reaction of the politicians.

Last year, in Kerala, there was a huge uproar caused by the parents - because the state CBSE committee decided to include sex ed in the CBSE schools.

So I guess it requires a MAJOR change of mindset. The public has to realise that there is nothing wrong with sex education (or sex for that matter) and that it is an important factor in preventing STDs.

Looong back, when the kids studied till 10th STD, and then worked in the farm, spending more than half of his/her time in the house, there was time for the parents to talk about the birds and the bees. Now, in the age of 8 hours school + 4 hours entrance coaching + 6 hours of study, the poor child is exhausted beyond recognition, and where is the time for birds and bees?

@1conoclast - yeah pretty good idea. The MDRRPI - The Mutiny Democratic Republic Revolutionist Party of India. And if our main agenda is sex ed, then it could be MDRRPI (S) - The Mutiny Democratic Republic Revolutionist Party of India (Sex).

    :D :P

    Very interesting information, Mohan.

I guess condoms are kind of illegal too, if sex is only for procreation…
