A Whole New Breed Of Sycophants

Yep, Sonia Gandhi seems to be inspiring a whole new breed of sycophants. We already know that the Congressmen, without exception, are sycophants of the Highest Order. They now have competition from PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari a.k.a. Mr. 10 per cent, husband of the slain former Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto. For the uninitiated, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which emerged as the largest group in the February 18 general election, is set to form a coalition government with parties like PML-N and ANP. This is what he recently told Karan Thapar for ‘Devil’s Advocate‘ programme when asked whether he intended to play a role like Congress President Sonia Gandhi in India,

She’s too great for me to be Sonia.

Honestly, I am going to choke if this guy says anything more about her. Sonia Gandhi…great? What has she ever done to become great? Someone’s got to remind Mr. Zardari that merely having ‘Gandhi’ as a surname doesn’t make anyone great. I have always felt ashamed that an Italian has been the real person ruling India for the past few years. Don’t we have suitable Indian leaders for that job anymore? Leave that point of her being an Italian aside, does she even have the political acumen to lead a huge, chaotic country like India? I don’t think so.

Let’s analyse whether Sonia Gandhi is a ‘Great Leader’ by taking into account the performance of the UPA Government, because ultimately Sonia Gandhi is behind every major decision taken by the government. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is just a puppet (let’s be honest, that’s the truth!).

  • The UPA Government’s flagship National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, was launched with much fanfare in August 2005. This is also Sonia Gandhi’s pet project. As chairperson of the National Advisory Committee and the UPA chairperson, she played an important role in making this scheme into a law. A recent audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has revealed that this scheme is riddled with corruption and irregularities.
  • One more example is the UPA’s showpiece Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Mission — meant to provide safe drinking water to villages across the country. Again, a recent audit by the CAG has revealed many examples of corruption, fraud and waste during the implementation of this scheme. The problem with the above mentioned schemes is that they are implemented using the same bureaucratic machinery that has become corrupt and lazy over all these years. Now surely a ‘Great Leader’ should have sorted out those issues. The Congress came to power on the ‘aam aadmi’ plank, but it’s record of implementation of schemes designed for him has been disappointing.
  • Talking about foreign policy, the UPA government really botched up the Indo-US nuclear deal. It would have been a great victory for this government (and ultimately for Sonia) if this deal could have been operationalised. But no, the UPA has not been able to convince even it’s allies that the deal is good for India (As for me, I don’t believe that the deal is good for India). This has been a major embarrassment for the government because they have invested a lot of political capital on this deal.

These are just a few arguments to support my view that this blatant sycophancy exhibited by the Congressmen and some people like Mr. Zardari towards Sonia Gandhi is really unfounded. She is at best a very ordinary leader who just happens to be a ‘Gandhi’. Nothing else. Can she be compared to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee? No way. He is a true statesman. He very ably led a coalition government for a full term with little or no hiccups. He provided a stable government at the Centre. On the other hand, this tottering UPA government can be brought down by some Communists who merely support this government from outside.

And yes, taking my point further, I shudder when Rahul Gandhi is projected as the next Prime Minister of India. Is he a political leader at all? What political merit has he shown till now? Nil. His recent statements are a testimony to his political immaturity.

Sample the following statement which he made during campaiging for the Uttar Pradesh elections.

Had the Gandhi family been there in politics (at that time), Babri Masjid demolition would not have taken place.

Extremely immature. Going by that line of thinking, we can safely conclude that had the Gandhi family not been in politics in the 1970s, the Emergency would not have happened. If you ask me, the only reason he is trying to become a politician is because his mommy pushes him to do it. Most of the time, he is either learning how to paraglide or is organizing cricket tournaments.

It seems that the Congress party does not have any other leader who has fought his (or her) way up from the grassroots level, who has proved his (or her) mettle at the national level in politics. And if that is the case, they don’t deserve to be in power, they don’t deserve to get re-elected for another term at the Centre. We certainly can’t afford to have a reluctant politician (or a foreigner) becoming our Prime Minister.

Sonia Gandhi is great… She single handedly brought Congress back to power defeating your so called “great statesman”., vajpay…It was not only out of her surnam.. if it was so, she could have come to power in 1999 itself…. but because of the strength and good will she possess… indian people have accepted her as Indian and in fact she is more Indian than many of us. She shows excellent political accumen in holding UPA together, it is far more trouling a job than NDA. UPA consist of parties that were infact born as a substitute for congress, like NCP, RJD, DMK … all these parties were born to fight against congress rule… so to cobble up a team and rule India for 4 years is reallly remakable.. Again Left parties, in 3 satates where Left pasrties are still left. in all these 3 states, Congress is their enemy number 1. Still they support Congress… more than congress alll these allies, including Sharath pawar, sopport Sonia … It all shows here political accumen…. you said it right, we cant compare soniali and Vajpay, This great statesman and his cabinet were day dreaming when Khandahar plane hijack happened, even though flight was held in Amritsar for more than 2 hours, this greeat man and his cabinet could take no decision…. finally wht happened, terroist flown the flight to khandahar and our Great statesman’s Cabinet minister accompanied 3 dreaded terrorist and a huge sum as ransom…. grat statesman…..

In Kargil, this great statesman and his defence minister were playing second fiddle to Ms. Jayalalitha, their ally at that time, when indian soil is being captured by Pak intruders and finally alot indian soldiers had to sacrifice their life for this statesman’s follish and irresponsible attitude

Again, by repeating a nuclear test, which GREAT INDIRA GANDHI had alrewady tested in 1971, he brought alot of sanctions on INDIA. Above all,. IT GAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PAKISTAN TO CONDUCT THE FIRST NUCLEAR TEST.. what did we acheive???? nothing… every one knew India have nuclear capacity as it was evident from 1971…. This Man simply repeated the test giving pak a politica reason to conduct first nuclear test

It was during his regime that Parliament was attacked, in spite of POTO, in effect… it was the predecessor of dreaded POTA… What statesmanship did he have?????? Nothing

Even though the common man is yet to reap the outcome, UPA under the guidance of Mrs Soniaji has taken a lot of steps to ensure the upliftment of poor. She cant go and make the beurocrats work …. If a Italian Lady shows this much interest in India’s poor man, why cant so called INDIAN beurocrats feel the same interst??? ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for my bad English, i am typing from my mobile phone

@Kris In 1999 Kangreesi Chamchas scanned the whole INDIA AND CHOOSE A VILLAGE IN KARNATAKA called as “Bellery”. This is the Village in which TONIA GANDHI GOT ELECTED along with AMETHI. But they were not sure about AMETHI so they needed a backup.

Now WHY IS THIS ALLOWED IN INDIA?. How come a foreigner can come to this country and her supporters choose ANY VILLAGE IN INDIA WHO ARE PSEUDOS AND ARE A RUBBER STAMPS FOR VOTING KANGEESS

I am sure intelligent people like @2S @CHACKO AND @SANJUKTA will go and do a GOOGLE to confirm this and I GURANTEE THAT THEY WILL NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS FACT.

I am so DUM AND A FREAKING RWH (Right Wing Hindu right) BUBBLING WITH SO MANY OF THESE FACTS, WHAT DO I KNOW . YEAH I AM REALLY A MAD PERSON ‘Cos that’s what happens when you discover such facts in midst of people who are in their UTOPIA…

Forget about me, (It was never about me), At least ponder on these facts that WHY ARE POLITICIANS ALLOWED TO REPRESENT REMOTE PEOPLE WHO THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW. And more than one city!!! Why????

Secondly this is my own research..

    a) Why is PM of India appointed by a Politician Tonia.. Shouldn’t PM be a representative of the people of India?

    b) Why is one person allowed to elect infinite times power posts in Indian democracy like Chief Ministers. Take the example of Basu Chatterji who ruled Bengal for more than 30 years. Take Kangree Sharad Pawar or Take many Kangree Leaders. They are NOT DIEING AND THERE IS NO WAY IN THE COSTITUTION THAT THEY SHOULD GO AWAY.. Now the result is Sharad Pawar owns BARAMATI AND PUNE ALL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS…

    c) In Foreign countries the Police Commissioner of SOME OF THE Cities are elected by the people. After all it’s an admin post and does not need Police training. Why can’t we do that in India? After all the law can be forced upon the politicians only by the POLICE COMMISSIONER. Look at the present situation of Raj Thakrey. The Police Commissioner NEEDs PERMISSION FROM THE HIGHER UPS TO DO HIS/HER JOB.. HI HI HI HI HI..

I am doing some breathing technique now.. And doing some Yoga…

Om.. Jai Ho Pseuodgiri… Om Jai Ho Educated Illiteracy….
Om Jai Ho 12′th Standard almost failed people going for Law…
    Om… Gandhigiri… Ommmm Goondagiri…

    Om Ashanti Ashanti Ashanti…

    hey Kris,

I think the post is very apt and pretty justified with facts. In all fairness, Sonia might not have wanted to be where she is right now. It was the inability of Congress which forced her to take up important position in Congress and the same handicap is forcing her kids to contribute on and off.

I don’t like, infact would hate to see Sonia as the PM of India. Well not because she is not an Indian by birth. But first of all, she hardly understands anything about India, a country of myriad culture and interests (@ Krishnaprasad: You are wrong when you try to exaggerate she is more than an Indian… she is not even an avg one). Secondly, I would still like to see likes of Vajpayee and even Advani as PM since they have worked as activists; you may disagree with their ideologies but they have made india progress through devoting their life to matters related to India.
Every party has made mistakes, but not many got it gifted to them like Sonia and now Rahul. And as you have very well pointed out her inexperience shows in her terrible track record even in her own pet projects.
Yes, nuclear deal would have been a face-saver for Congress but all thanks to their desperate thrust for power, they chose to make govt with left parties, which have no solid ideology.
But I think Krishna is correct when he says that to have pulled a govt thru with such partners is a good achievement. Nonetheless, I hate UPA’s term:

    1. for dividing the country
    2. for having made mockery of the auspicious post of President. Earlier we heard of so many beautiful speeches, anecdotes and quotes from APJ Kalam. I used to read it like a grandchild listens to grandfather’s stories. Now all Pratibha Patil does is come to Parliament and utter keywords of UPA govt. All for impartial President

    @ Krishnaprasad
You want proof that Vajpayee is a statesman?
Well here goes. On March 6th, our Prime Minister called Vajpayee the ‘Bhisma Pitamah’ of Indian politics. He may have said it in desperation for the nuclear deal, but fact remains that he said it. You can read the full report here. Even the Congress accepts the fact that he is a great statesman.

You also said, She shows excellent political acumen in holding UPA together, it is far more troubling a job than NDA.
Yes, she just about holds it together. But is it good for India? A host of reforms and the disinvestment policy have been stuck because of this tottering government. Not one decision can be taken without the approval of the commies, who are anything but nationalists. Do you still like this government? This government is wasting time, it just wants to stay in power as long as it can.

You also say, Indian people have accepted her as Indian and in fact she is more Indian than many of us.
Really, you believe that? Just ask people who live around you whether they like Sonia Gandhi and do tell me how many answered ‘Yes’.

You talk about Kargil. Well, we won that battle. How about naxalism? One third of our country is currently under naxalite control, the writ of the state is almost non-existent in those areas, and all we get is periodical lip-service from our non-political Prime Minister.

Parliament attack: Afzal Guru was sentenced to death for his role in that attack. Our ’secular’ government has put that on hold. Why? Can you answer that? I agree that it was a major intelligence failure, but then the situation is even worse now, terrorism in India has spread to newer areas and naxalites can attack any area at will and get away with it.

I can’t agree more with your point on Kangreesi Chamchas. Those guys have given us a Prime Minister who has never won an election in his life.

    @Kamal Tripathi and @firsttimevisitor
It’s good to hear that you guys liked my post!

I too would prefer to see the likes of Vajpayee and Advani as PM. They have proved their mettle in politics. They have fought their way up from the grassroots levels.
